I read a lot about square inch method but not much about how any other costs that should affect the end price. Framing for one. If an artist doesnt frame any works or if they could frame any size pianting the same way and could break that cost down by square inch maybe that could work. Professional picture framing is so varied by method and style that end pricing for for framed art could be hundreds of dollars different for two identical sized pieces. Also, if one doesn't do commission work you could price lower but if you are too low it will be hard to get enough compensation for the extra effort and demands of creating work for clients. And lastly what about any other costs of doing business, profit & living expenses, studio expenses, insurance, income taxes, and more? The fact is, if you are hobbyist then these may be out the window but if one really wants to be in business as an artist...paint and sell if you can make enough money but if one can't- one should find another line of work. I would rather not waste my time talent, and money creating a product I can't sell for the price I should get toake a good living.

I would never work without a deposit, no way no no, your out the time, materials, everybody is different i guess, but i love your work. No deposit sounds like you lack the surety you can make them what they want.

My God I'm struggling!! I went to start a website but I don't have the money for that. The "free" ones aren't free. I live paycheck to paycheck and have nothing to start with. I have a small body of work and some materials to create some more paintings, I JUST NEED A DARN LIFE LINE!!!! Some help!!! I'm not even technologically savvy enough to create a website or if I magically acquire enough money to afford to have one built, how do I use it? I'm so tired of feeling defeated.

i have such an unstoppable amount of hype within me to put my artwork out for the world. its very H.R. Giger esque. i also have autism and adhd, so i can't just do one thing at a time lol and you're advice is so priceless, and i hope i make it through so i can return the favor. you're incredible and thank you for sharing all this with us.

I am interested in art, so this channel pops up now and then. I really must say that this channel is excruciatingly painful to me, mostly because I take abstract art (all art, in fact) seriously, yet I see not a hint of serious artistic work or effort here. I have known many artists, and of course have studied all the really best artists' work all my life --- and I have never, I mean NEVER, seen art treated so carelessly, crudely, and haphazardly. This leads me to only one conclusion: that this artist does not understand painting or abstract art at all, and has no clue how to proceed except to randomly just slap more paint on, willy-nilly, and keep mushing it around. I do not believe all art videos on youtube deserve praise, compliments, and support. Sometimes maybe an educated truthful assessment is called for. As for a meaningful suggestion to this artist, I would suggest to stop painting and spend a few years studying art history, visiting museums, then maybe a few years in good studio drawing class, and time spent reading and really trying to understand the purposes of great past art and how difficult those artists' challenges were. There is much more to it than just "coloring in" a canvas.

Wow. As if art is so easy.

Just listening to you talking about your fears of losing your paintings because of identity theft on Instagram……. You probably already know, because you’re into these things way more than I am, but by using your emails as your major communication, no one can take things away from you. Instagram or Facebook etc can (suddenly) close their doors, but if you have built up a email mailing list, you won’t lose your contacts. Just a thought.
